Homemade superfood chocolate (2 ways)

May 11, 2018

My kids love Dark chocolate but it still contains sugars and the ones that don’t, contain other additives hahaha! I give them 1 block of choc a day. They love it and it dawned on me that this was the perfect opportunity to sneak some superfoods into their bods. Plus, by making my own I can control what goes in.

You can use either of the two recipes I use. The first is the quicker, simpler (budget friendly version). The second is the loaded ‘superfoods’ version. Before you look at the cost of the ingredients consider what you are putting into their and your body. Superfoods, foods that build up your body instead of break it down! By spending a little more on proper ingredients you will eventually spend less on medical bills! There you go!

Recipe 1:

You will need:

1 cup melted coconut oil

1 cup raw honey

1 cup nut butter/sugar free peanut butter

1 tbsp raw cacoa powder

1 tsp vanilla extract

1 tsp cinnamon

1 tsp fine Himalayan sea salt

How to:
Blend all the ingredients in a blender or with an electric mixer until smooth. You can add extras to the chocolate here, like espresso, cranberries or crushed nuts. Even seeds work well.

Line a baking tray with wax paper and carefully pour the choc mix over.

Freeze as is for 3-4 hours. Cut into blocks and store in freezer in a tupperware. Break some into fun shapes.

Recipe 2:  the loaded version

You will need:

1 cup melted coconut oil

1 cup raw honey

1 cup CACAO butter (pure choc in its natural form. I like soaring free superfoods one)

2 tbsp pure raw CACAO powder

1 tsp vanilla extract

1 tsp cinnamon

1 tsp Himalayan sea salt

2 tbsp ground golden flaxseeds (grind until a powder forms, I use a coffee grinder or grind by hand with mortar and pestle)

Mix all the ingredients together.

Melt all the ingredients together over low heat on the stove. A double boiler works best but if you don’t have one then just melt it slowly in a pan. Make sure all the ingredients mix in well together. Don’t allow them to boil!

Pour over into an oven dish. Place in fridge or freezer until solid. Cut into small blocks and keep in airtight container. Take out a block at a time as needed. Guilt free!

Yum!
