Soda water, safe?

Dec 1, 2016

Q: I don’t take sugar so I avoid cold drinks BUT I do drink soda water, lots of it. How unhealthy is it? Black coffee, water and soda water with green tea after supper are my liquid vices.

A: You are going to hate me! Unfortunately, although soda water is considered the ‘healthier’ of the carbonated drinks, it is still CARBONATED! yucky. This makes it a ‘no no’ on my list i’m afraid!
Carbonated drinks tend to lean towards acidic, so if your PH is already out of whack this beverage will only magnify the problem (especially when consumed in excess), the bubbles also mess with your gut, they cause gas and bloating although some studies have found that it actually helps with digestion, I have never found this to be true! They often have added sodium as well, which is never good for your blood pressure and increases water retention. On the plus side, soda water does not have added sugar! This makes me slightly happier.

My main concern with your particular situation is not so much you drinking soda water but the fact that you say you drink so much of it! I would recommend tapering your intake. Save it for special occasions. Water, black filter coffee and greentea are fantastic! These at least have anti oxidants in! Benefiting your body. Try play around with some natural ice tea recipes instead? Infuse some fruit slices into brewed organic greentea. Add lemon and ice and allow to draw. Refrigerate and use this when the urge arises for some soda water!
Hope this hasn’t completely ruined your weekend heheh
